Explore a world shaped from the inside out.
Plaister Cliffs
Soft leaves drift through beams of light, revealing the quiet life of a woodland build on gypsum. As this soft rock dissolves, it creates the shifting and alkaline terrain that supports a delicate community of rare plants, mosses, fungi, and more.
Above ground, this is a fragile karst woodland where Yellow Lady’s-Slippers orchids and Bulblet Bladder-ferns find one of their few safe places to grow, relying on the forest’s cool shade and the chemistry of the land to survive. But brilliant white cliffs begin to reveal the hidden complexity below the surface of this globally rare landscape, shaped by the constant and often dramatic interplay between water and gypsum.
Now step into Plaister Cliffs and experience an otherworldly place where the ground can shift beneath you at any moment.
